Lorry Yednak BIO
Lorry Yednak Graduated from McKeesport High School. His
Father, Loris Yednak, who had a profound influence on Lorry, was a
professional musician who played the piano, and was a 45 member
of the Musicians local. Lorry’s father played in the Army Jazz Big
Band in WWII. So, it was full circle when Lorry provided the sound
reinforcement for the Marine Airwing Jazz Group.
After starting drums in 1961, for the McKeesport drill team Lorry
continued to grow as a musician and began marching in Junior Drum
Corp. His lifelong friend and mentor, Mike Blazer, later encouraged
Lorry to march with the Pittsburgh Rockets Drum Corp.
Lorry’s first teaching experience was with Penn Hills High School
under Emory Toth. Lorry then taught in many different schools
including; Baldwin, East Allegheny, McKeesport, Elizabeth Forward,
Clear Springs, Boonsboro, and Williamsport, all in Maryland,
Springford, Northside Urban Pathways and the University of
Pittsburgh.
Lorry also played drum set on the weekends with many different
bands including; the Castaways, The Dukes, The Musical Knights,
and Devon Smeal’s Hot Metal Band at Kennywood Park.
Lorry started in 1968 working part time at Progressive Music. When
he graduated from high school in 1972, he began working there full
time, and eventually he would purchase the business.
As a music retail expert, Lorry provided equipment for many
professional groups and organizations including, the Temptations,
Ben Vereen, Sergio Mendez, Beth Nelson Chapman, Dave Koz and
many others.
This summer Lorry will be working as an announcer at Disney World
with Dance Masters of America for their National Title Convention.
