Paul Silver BIO

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, violist Paul Silver holds a Bachelor of
Music degree and a Performer's Certificate from the Eastman
School of Music. He also holds a Master of Music degree from the
Cleveland Institute of Music. His teachers include Robert Vernon,
Francis Tursi, Heidi Castleman and Edward Ormond.

Paul joined the viola section of the Pittsburgh Symphony
Orchestra in 1981 where he worked under four of the PSO’s
Music Directors - Andre Previn, Lorin Maazel, Mariss Jansons
and Manfred Honeck - before retiring in 2019.

Mr. Silver has been a participant in the Aspen and Casals Music
Festivals, and has performed as a chamber musician in Beijing,
Hong Kong, Moscow and throughout the United States as well as
numerous concerts in the Pittsburgh area. As a viola soloist he
has performed with the Westmoreland and Butler symphony
orchestras.

Paul has also served on the adjunct music faculties of the
University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University and Carnegie
Mellon University.

Paul and his wife Linda, a violinist and former Orchestra Director
in the Mt. Lebanon School District, have three children, Sarah,
David and Jeremy.
